The Chateau de Valencay

We went out of our way to see this castle because they were supposed to have a lot of fun things for kids.  We left disappointed because the giant maze was closed and we didn't see any llamas, black swans, or kangaroos (per the brochure).  The castle did have a very funny audio tour which we appreciated listening to.
The grounds were entirely ornamental. Well groomed, but nothing edible, so a bit boring for me after the others we had seen.
They had a small animal park which A. was excited to see.
 Peacocks.

I took this picture because I was impressed by the upholstery details. It is similar to "fussy cutting" in quilting, but for a chair instead. Look at the arm rests and border edges of each cushion. I have some chairs that I am about to redo with some similar strong shapes in the fabric that this is helpful inspiration for.

This chair was called a "hip bath"
And this tiny copper tub is the bath tub!
Huge kitchens. Imagine the number of people that would have been staffing it.
