Roche Jagu is a 15th century gothic castle with small but well designed gardens.
We had a fun time visiting it with Rozenn's family.
We saw more espaliered fruit trees. Vegetables and fruits were planted right in the ground in this section, no boxes or raised beds.
While we were looking at this section, an herb garden, we talked about how efficient and convenient it is to have this tile pattern. You can easily reach and tend each type of herb, while keeping it hemmed in and separate from its neighbors. Very tidy and organized.
More waddle fencing.
These are raised beds inside waddle fencing enclosures with stone slabs on top. I think the slab on top made them look more complete.
Inside the castle they had a fantastic exhibit of art by a local illustrator. A lot of the images were of local Breton legends. Here is one of L'Ankou:
There was a beautiful little prayer corner with a stained glass window.
And as with so many of the castles we visited -- winding stair cases.
Beautiful ceiling beams
A. liked the art room that was part of the illustrator's exhibition.
That night we had a feast of homemade crepes a la Rozenn. She made them right in front of us at the table. We had some salty ones with ham, eggs, and cheese and some sweet ones with butter, caramel, sugar or nutella.
