Family Schooling Summary: Science, Field Trips, and Ice Skating Lessons

A lot of indoor learning is happening during these cold days. Big sister A grew rock crystals with a little kit that she got for Christmas:
We spent several nights making and painting this volcano. It has to dry after each step.
We will probably set it off tomorrow at FHE.
We chose the Maryland Science Center for our family membership thing this year. We are planning to do a better job using the ASTC program on our travels this year (membership to one state science museum gets you into a lot of other museums for free).
It has been 2 years since our last membership expired.  A lot of things were the same.

We spent some time in the gallery about optical illusions and then watched a presentation on it.
The kids thought this "bed of nails" activity was pretty amazing.

Brother M has improved the complexity of his ball ramp building since the last time we came.
Here are the big kids getting ready to go into ice skating lessons with their friends.  They did ice skating camp for a half day with their cousins and had a blast so we signed them up for that instead of swimming for the next 8 weeks.
We also went to the National Electronics Museum in Baltimore this week.
We went with a big group of homeschoolers and had an excellent tour guide.

Big sister A and Brother M both participated in the demonstrations:
